Today we had a rude start to the day with a wakeup call at 5:30am for our 6:30am breakfast, and our coach leaving at 7:30am. Unfortunately the weather was overcast with intermittant spots of rain. We started off on our 3hr drive to Pompeii and I nearly lost my breakfast all over Joe. I managed (just) to keep it down and was ok for the rest of the day. We stopped mid-way at a road-side fuel/diner/shop for the obligatory toilet break. We tried to pick up two small bottles of water but couldn't find anything smaller than 1.5ltrs - and we weren't going to carry that around all day.

We arrived in Pompeii and set off on our 2hr guided tour at around 11:30pm. We saw many ruins and were amazed at what these early Romans had built. It was somewhat disturbing to view the carbonised remains of people who had been "frozen" in time with anguished looks on their faces captured instantly by the lava.
Some old stuff and an Island with a great view!
After this tour we stopped for lunch and then walked around the street markets viewing the dodgy souveniers. Joe was on the hunt for snow globes for a friend, and it seems the ones with murky water were 3 euro, and the ones with clear water were 5. They made no sale today!

We then boarded the bus again for an hour trip to Sorrento. It was very windy here and we had about an hour of leisure time to walk the streets. We headed straight to the closest coffee house for a much neaded cafiene injection to wake us up. After this we wondered the warren of streets, Paula and I on the lookout for good bargain shopping in costume jewellery, handbags and shoes. Alas not many bargains were found as it seems we had hit the streets during their "seista" time and not many of the shops were open.
We boaded a smaller bus for a quick death-defying trip to the dock for our boat ride to the Isle of Capri. It was very very windy and the rain was threatening with drops every now and then. When the boat finally arrived I had to keep my eyes closed on the way over and hum a song in my head to stop from being sick as the water was very choppy.
We arrived at Capri about 6:30pm then boarded the finicular train to take us up to "mid" Capri. We walked to our hotel and were allocated our room with a view of the next door hotels airconditioning units and a small view of the ocean. I would have been happy to go straight to bed, but a tour dinner was arranged for 7:45 this evening. This turned out to be in the hotel restaurant. The meal was ok, taking about 2hrs to be served the three courses, by which time most people were falling asleep nearly in their seats. An early night tonight as tomorrow.
