More Thermal Baths
From More Thermal Baths in Budapest, Hungary on Mar 26 '01
We went to the Castle District this morning. It is what remains of the old Budapest. Much of Budapest has been ravaged by several different skirmishes, including WWII. There's not much left of any historical buildings, but old Buda has some more recent history.
After walking around the area, we went to the Labrynth. It is a series of underground caves, created by the thermal waters, which includes 4000 meters of winding hallways. During periods of war, it has been used as shelter and can hold up to 10,000 people! It was very interesting.
The weather was cold today, so we ended the afternoon at the Gellert Hotel. They have a system of thermal baths that are even warmer than the ones yesterday. It was a great way to warm up. We need some of those in LaPorte!!
We met some friends for dinner and coffee and learned much about Hungary, from the ex-patriate point of view. Tommorow, we leave for Salzburg, Austria.
How can we serve you better?
