Today we slept in, which was real easy as the sun doesn't seem to come up here till late as we are deeply surrounded by mountains. The view from our room of Lake Louise was amazing. It is hard to believe the colour of the lake - a light turquoise. Today it is really cold outside - and as we looked up at the mountains, it looked like it was snowing!!! Not long after, as we were walking around and taking heaps of photos, a few flecks of snow start falling on us.

We head off along the old highway towards Banff at around midday. We are limited on this road due to the native wildlife in the area, with the speed limit set to 50klm/hr. This makes the 130klm drive to Banff longer than expected. We stop along the way at Johnstone Canyon to stretch our legs on the 1.5km walk to the falls here. It's a bit of a worry to read the "beware of bear" signs, and read the details of how to avoid bear attacks on the trail.

We decide that it is safe enough to continue and along the way we see fabulous views of the bubbling streams, natural flora and small cascading waterfalls. Joe spotted a squirrel and quickly tried to get shots of this slippery sucker as he zig-zagged back and forth to get away from us strange creatures in his habitat.

At the lower falls, we have to duck under and walk through a small cave to view the crest of the falls. We are so close we feel the mist of the falls on our face. The noise is thundering and taking photos proves difficult with the sun shining on the water turning it a brilliant blinding white. On the way back to the car we stop at a gift shop and cafe and bought a very bad cup of coffee. This I ended up tossing into a nearby bear-safe bin.

On we continue to Banff and have a quick walk through the town. Joe decided to have a look in a ski supply shop at some ski boots to compare costs here verses back in Oz. After this we dropped in at the Irish pub and had a nice lunch before heading on to Calgary. Now we are on the major highway at it is 110km/hr all the way! When we finally approach Calgary, we can't seem to follow the maps we have and end up getting really lost. We eventually just follow the signs to the city and drive until we recognise a street on our map. Its easy street then and we find that the car rental place is on the same block as our hotel, so decide to drop it off and walk with our luggage around the corner and check-in. Its a pretty quiet night then as I decide it is time to update my travel blog and Joe feels like a quiet night in. Tomorrow will be a very long day with our flight out of Calgary to London not due to leave until 22:30.
